Exciting Eurovision news from Ukraine, where the official artwork design and slogan have now been revealed. The Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine and the EBU have just published the anticipated designs, which will feature the slogan ‘Celebrate Diversity.’
Celebrate Diversity is the core message around this year’s contest, and the design surrounding this is based off a traditional Ukrainian bead necklace known as Namysto. It’s not just a simple piece of jewellery, but an item that represents beauty and health. Each bead is different, which represents diversity and reinforces the message of the official slogan.
Jon Ola Sand commented on the artwork and slogan, saying ‘The notion of celebrating diversity builds on last year’s theme of ‘Come Together’ and is at the heart of Eurovision values: it is all-inclusive and all about countries around Europe, and beyond, joining together to celebrate both our common ground and our unique differences, as well as some great music’.
The design studios involved with creating the logo took the traditional Namysto and built on this design by adding bright colours, and creating each bead to be unique. As all the beads are connected, it then represents how we are all joined together, despite being unique.
Jon Ola Sand then continued on to say, ‘Incorporating this beautiful and meaningful logo based on a traditional amulet gives not only a sense of history and heritage but also a modern look and feel. As the production grows from these themes, we are very much looking forward to seeing what is sure to be a fantastic event in May’.
Executive Producer Victoria Romanova has also commented on the theme, saying ‘The logo cleverly combines traditional and modern elements, reflecting Ukrainian society and the main leitmotif of Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv. We are delighted that two of Ukraine’s best creative agencies, Republique and Banda, united to produce this year’s slogan and design’.
In terms of Eurovision itself, the hosts hope to carry this message of celebrating diversity throughout the show by giving each of the 43 artists a chance to display their individual flare. Executive producer Oleksandr Kharebin has commented on this, saying ‘This year, artists from over 40 different countries will come to Kyiv and contribute their music and culture to the show and we will add our unique Ukrainian flavour, together creating a celebration of Diversity and an amazing and truly memorable 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.’
This reveal comes in time for the semi-final allocation draw, which will take place on the 31st of January at 11:00 CET.
